Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt
not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely
die.

bitter in soul;
21 Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for
hid treasures;
22 Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?
23 Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged
in?
24 For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like
the waters.
25 For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which
I was afraid of is come unto me.
26 I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble
came.
Job 4:17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure
than his maker?
18 Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with
folly:
19 How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation
is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?
20 They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without
any regarding it.
21 Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without
wisdom.
Job 7:9 As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down
to the grave shall come up no more.
10 He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him
any more.
Job 7:21 And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away my
iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the
morning, but I shall not be.
Job 8:11 Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?
12 Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before
any other herb.
13 So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall
perish:
Job 10:18 Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth out of the womb? Oh
that I had given up the ghost, and no eye had seen me!
19 I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried
from the womb to the grave.
20 Are not my days few? cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort
a little,
21 Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and
the shadow of death;
22 A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without
any order, and where the light is as darkness.
Job 14:1 Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.
2 He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow,
and continueth not.
Job 14:10 But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost,
and where is he?
11 As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:
12 So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they
shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.
13 O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me
secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time,
and remember me!
14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time
will I wait, till my change come.
Job 19:25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at
the latter day upon the earth:
26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall
I see God:
27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another;
though my reins be consumed within me.
Job 20:4 Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,
5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite
but for a moment?

shall say, Where is he?
8 He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be
chased away as a vision of the night.
Job 30:23 For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house
appointed for all living.
Psalms 1:6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of
the ungodly shall perish.

I sleep the sleep of death;

Psalms 28:1 Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest,
if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.
Psalms 28:3 Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity,
which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.
4 Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of
their endeavours: give them after the work of their hands; render to them
their desert.
5 Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his
hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up.
Psalms 30:9 What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit?
Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?
10 Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.
11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my
sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent.
O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
Psalms 31:17 Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee:
let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.
18 Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly

Psalms 37:16 A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches
of many wicked.
Psalms 37:20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall
be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume
away.
21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth
mercy, and giveth.
22 For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that
be cursed of him shall be cut off.
Psalms 37:28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints;
they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
Psalms 37:37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of
that man is peace.
38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked
shall be cut off.
Psalms 39:13 O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence,

15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall

16 Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house
is increased;
17 For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend
after him.
18 Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee,
when thou doest well to thyself.
19 He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
20 Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that
perish.
Psalms 52:5 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee
away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the

bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will

see his desire upon his enemies.

Psalms 115:16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD'S: but the earth
hath he given to the children of men.
17 The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.
18 But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise
the LORD.

21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the
beast that goeth downward to the earth?
22 Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should
rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him
to see what shall be after him?
Ecclesiastes 9:3 This is an evil among all things that are done under the
sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of
men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and
after that they go to the dead.
4 For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living
dog is better than a dead lion.
5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing,
neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither
have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the
sun.
Ecclesiastes 9:9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days
of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the
days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour
which thou takest under the sun.
10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is
no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou
goest.
Ecclesiastes 9:12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that
are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare;
so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly
upon them.
13 This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto
me:
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and
the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
Isaiah 26:13 O LORD our God, other lords beside thee have had dominion over
us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name.

rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their
memory to perish.

18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they
that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.
19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father
to the children shall make known thy truth.
Isaiah 43:17 Which bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the army and the
power; they shall lie down together, they shall not rise: they are extinct,
they are quenched as tow.
Isaiah 51:6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath:
for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old
like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but
my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.
7 Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart
is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their
revilings.
8 For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat
them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation
from generation to generation.
Isaiah 51:12 I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou
shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which
shall be made as grass;
Jeremiah 51:57 And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her
captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual
sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.
Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also

GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth
iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man
doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not
be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that
he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel;
Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth
iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he
die.
27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath
committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul
alive.
28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions
that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Ezekiel 18:32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith
the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.
Ezekiel 33:1 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When
I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their
coasts, and set him for their watchman:
3 If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and
warn the people;
4 Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning;
if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall
be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.
6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and
the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among
them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at
the watchman's hand.
7 So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel;
therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.
8 When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou
dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die
in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
9 Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he
do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered
thy soul.
Daniel 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which
standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble,
such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at
that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written
in the book.
2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some
to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament;
and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
Daniel 12:13 But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and
stand in thy lot at the end of the days.
Hosea 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem
them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy
destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

abounded, grace did much more abound:
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through

Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ
were baptized into his death?

1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the
Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple

26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all
things under him.
28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also
himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may
be all in all.
29 Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead
rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?
30 And why stand we in jeopardy every hour?
31 I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I
die daily.
32 If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what
advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow
we die.
1 Corinthians 15:35 But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and
with what body do they come?
36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:
37 And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be,
but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:
38 But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his
own body.
39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men,
another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory
of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it
is raised in incorruption:
43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness;
it is raised in power:
44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a
natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the
last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural;
and afterward that which is spiritual.
47 The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from
heaven.
48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly,
such are they also that are heavenly.
49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the
image of the heavenly.
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom
of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all
be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet
shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be
changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put
on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal
shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying
that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
2 Corinthians 1:9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we
should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we
trust that he will yet deliver us;

we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed

Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and
sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh
in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts
of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were
by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ,
(by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places

7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace
in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it
is the gift of God:
Ephesians 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from
the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
1 Thessalonians 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren,
concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which
have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which
sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive

voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ

in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with
the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain
salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together
with him.
2 Thessalonians 1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord
Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count
slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should
perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive
for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee
a crown of life.
11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches;
He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices
in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of
our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
16 And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats,
fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,

dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto
thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name,
small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
Revelation 14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write,
Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the
Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow
them.
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God;
and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book
of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written
in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered
up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according

14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second
death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into
the lake of fire.
Revelation 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will
be his God, and he shall be my son.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and
whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their
part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second
death.
