2 Chronicles 10:8 But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him,
and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that
stood before him.
9 And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to
this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that
thy father did put upon us?
10 And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying,
Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father
made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt
thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.
11 For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your
yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as
the king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day.
13 And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel
of the old men,
14 And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father
made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with
whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
15 So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God,
that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah
the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
2 Chronicles 11:1 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of
the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen
men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the
kingdom again to Rehoboam.
2 But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
3 Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel
in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
4 Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren:
return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed
the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
2 Chronicles 15:1 And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:
2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all
Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye
seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake
you.
3 Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without
a teaching priest, and without law.
4 But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel, and
sought him, he was found of them.
5 And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him
that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.
6 And nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city: for God did vex
them with all adversity.
7 Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work
shall be rewarded.
8 And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet,
he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of
Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount
Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the porch of
the LORD.
2 Chronicles 18:18 Again he said, Therefore hear the word of the LORD; I
saw the LORD sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing
on his right hand and on his left.
19 And the LORD said, Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may
go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one spake saying after this manner,
and another saying after that manner.
20 Then there came out a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I
will entice him. And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith?
21 And he said, I will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all
his prophets. And the Lord said, Thou shalt entice him, and thou shalt also
prevail: go out, and do even so.
22 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth
of these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee.
2 Chronicles 20:6 And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God
in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and
in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand
thee?
2 Chronicles 25:17 Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash,
the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let
us see one another in the face.
18 And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle
that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give
thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was
in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.
19 Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth
thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thine
hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
20 But Amaziah would not hear; for it came of God, that he might deliver
them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods
of Edom.
2 Chronicles 30:12 Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart
to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the
LORD.
2 Chronicles 35:20 After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple,
Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Charchemish by Euphrates: and
Josiah went out against him.
21 But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee,
thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house
wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make haste: forbear thee from
meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not.
22 Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself,
that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Necho
from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.
2 Chronicles 36:15 And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his
messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on
his people, and on his dwelling place:
16 But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused
his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till
there was no remedy.
17 Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their
young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion
upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: he gave
them all into his hand.
18 And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures
of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes;
all these he brought to Babylon.
19 And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem,
and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly
vessels thereof.
20 And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon;
where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom
of Persia:
21 To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land
had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath,
to fulfil threescore and ten years.
22 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD
spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred
up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout
all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
23 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the
LORD God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house
in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people?
The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.
Ezra 1:1 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of
the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up
the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout
all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
2 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me
all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house
at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
3 Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let
him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD
God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem.
4 And whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men
of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with
beasts, beside the freewill offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem.
Ezra 6:22 And kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with joy: for
the LORD had made them joyful, and turned the heart of the king of Assyria
unto them, to strengthen their hands in the work of the house of God, the
God of Israel.
Ezra 7:21 And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the
treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest,
the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be
done speedily,
22 Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat,
and to an hundred baths of wine, and to an hundred baths of oil, and salt
without prescribing how much.
23 Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done
for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against
the realm of the king and his sons?
24 Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers,
porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful
to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.
Ezra 7:27 Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put such a
thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which
is in Jerusalem:
28 And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellors,
and before all the king's mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the
hand of the LORD my God was upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel
chief men to go up with me.
Job 12:13 With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.
14 Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up
a man, and there can be no opening.
15 Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them
out, and they overturn the earth.
16 With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.
17 He leadeth counsellors away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools.
18 He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle.
19 He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty.
20 He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding
of the aged.
21 He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty.
22 He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light
the shadow of death.
23 He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations,
and straiteneth them again.
24 He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and
causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.
25 They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like
a drunken man.
Daniel 2:19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision.
Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever:
for wisdom and might are his:
21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth
up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know
understanding:
22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness,
and the light dwelleth with him.
23 I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given
me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of
thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.
24 Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy
the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the
wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the
king the interpretation.
25 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus
unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known
unto the king the interpretation.
26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art
thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation
thereof?
27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which
the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians,
the soothsayers, shew unto the king;
28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known
to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream,
and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;
29 As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what
should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known
to thee what shall come to pass.
30 But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that
I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the
interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of
thy heart.
31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose
brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.
32 This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver,
his belly and his thighs of brass,
33 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.
34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote
the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.
35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken
to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors;
and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the
stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole
earth.
36 This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before
the king.
37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee
a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and
the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee
ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.
39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another
third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh
in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these,
shall it break in pieces and bruise.
41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and
part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of
the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry
clay.
42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the
kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle
themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another,
even as iron is not mixed with clay.
44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom,
which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other
people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and
it shall stand for ever.
45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without
hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver,
and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come
to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof
sure.
Daniel 4:10 Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold
a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.
11 The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven,
and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:
12 The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was
meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls
of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.
13 I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and
an holy one came down from heaven;
14 He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches,
shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from
under it, and the fowls from his branches:
15 Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band
of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with
the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of
the earth:
16 Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given
unto him; and let seven times pass over him.
17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word
of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High
ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth
up over it the basest of men.
Daniel 10:12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first
day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself
before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days:
but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained
there with the kings of Persia.
Amos 9:7 Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of
Israel? saith the LORD. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of
Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?
8 Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will
destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly
destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD.
9 For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all
nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain
fall upon the earth.
Luke 1:52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them
of low degree.
John 19:9 And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence
art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not
that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except
it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee
hath the greater sin.
Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he
is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing,
seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the
face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the
bounds of their habitation;
27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and
find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of
your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there
is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God:
and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou
then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have
praise of the same:
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which
is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the
minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience
sake.
6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers,
attending continually upon this very thing.
7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom
to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another
hath fulfilled the law.
1 Corinthians 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits;
afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God,
even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority
and power.
25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things
are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all
things under him.
28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also
himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may
be all in all.
