Numbers 36:1 And the chief fathers of the families of the children of Gilead,
the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph,
came near, and spake before Moses, and before the princes, the chief fathers
of the children of Israel:
2 And they said, The LORD commanded my lord to give the land for an inheritance
by lot to the children of Israel: and my lord was commanded by the LORD
to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother unto his daughters.
3 And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children
of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken from the inheritance of
our fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe whereunto
they are received: so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance.
4 And when the jubile of the children of Israel shall be, then shall their
inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are
received: so shall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance
of the tribe of our fathers.
5 And Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the word of the
LORD, saying, The tribe of the sons of Joseph hath said well.
6 This is the thing which the LORD doth command concerning the daughters
of Zelophehad, saying, Let them marry to whom they think best; only to the
family of the tribe of their father shall they marry.
7 So shall not the inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe
to tribe: for every one of the children of Israel shall keep himself to
the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.
8 And every daughter, that possesseth an inheritance in any tribe of the
children of Israel, shall be wife unto one of the family of the tribe of
her father, that the children of Israel may enjoy every man the inheritance
of his fathers.
9 Neither shall the inheritance remove from one tribe to another tribe;
but every one of the tribes of the children of Israel shall keep himself
to his own inheritance.
10 Even as the LORD commanded Moses, so did the daughters of Zelophehad:
11 For Mahlah, Tirzah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of
Zelophehad, were married unto their father's brothers' sons:
12 And they were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son
of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of
their father.
13 These are the commandments and the judgments, which the LORD commanded
by the hand of Moses unto the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by
Jordan near Jericho.
Deuteronomy 22:30 A man shall not take his father's wife, nor discover his
father's skirt.
Deuteronomy 24:5 When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to
war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free
at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken.
Jeremiah 3:1 They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him,
and become another man's, shall he return unto her again? shall not that
land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers;
yet return again to me, saith the LORD.
2 Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been
lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness;
and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.
Jeremiah 31:1 At the same time, saith the LORD, will I be the God of all
the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.
2 Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of the sword found grace
in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.
Matthew 5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt
not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her
hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee:
for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and
not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee:
for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and
not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her
a writing of divorcement:
32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for
the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever
shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
Matthew 14:3 For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him
in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.
4 For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because
they counted him as a prophet.
Matthew 19:1 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings,
he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;
2 And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.
3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is
it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made
them at the beginning made them male and female,
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall
cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath
joined together, let not man put asunder.
7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement,
and to put her away?
8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered
you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for
fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth
her which is put away doth commit adultery.
10 His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife,
it is not good to marry.
11 But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they
to whom it is given.
12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb:
and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be
eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's
sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
Mark 10:1 And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judaea
by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and,
as he was wont, he taught them again.
2 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to
put away his wife? tempting him.
3 And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?
4 And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put
her away.
5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart
he wrote you this precept.
6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to
his wife;
8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but
one flesh.
9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.
11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry
another, committeth adultery against her.
12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another,
she committeth adultery.
John 4:16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her,
Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy
husband: in that saidst thou truly.
19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
Romans 7:1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,)
how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband
so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the
law of her husband.
3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she
shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from
that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another
man.
4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body
of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised
from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the
law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
1 Corinthians 7:1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It
is good for a man not to touch a woman.
2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and
let every woman have her own husband.
3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also
the wife unto the husband.
4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise
also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.
5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that
ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that
Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
6 But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.
7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his
proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they
abide even as I.
9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry
than to burn.
10 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the
wife depart from her husband:
11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her
husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
12 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that
believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her
away.
13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be
pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.
14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving
wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but
now are they holy.
15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister
is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or
how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?
17 But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every
one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.
1 Corinthians 7:27 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art
thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
28 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she
hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but
I spare you.
29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both
they that have wives be as though they had none;
30 And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as
though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;
31 And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this
world passeth away.
32 But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth
for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how
he may please his wife.
34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman
careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and
in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how
she may please her husband.
35 And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon
you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord
without distraction.
36 But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin,
if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what
he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
37 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity,
but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that
he will keep his virgin, doeth well.
38 So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth
her not in marriage doeth better.
39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her
husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only
in the Lord.
40 But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also
that I have the Spirit of God.
2 Corinthians 11:1 Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly:
and indeed bear with me.
2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you
to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his
subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is
in Christ.
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the
church, and gave himself for it;
1 Thessalonians 4:1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort
you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk
and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
2 For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.
3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should
abstain from fornication:
4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification
and honour;
1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times
some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines
of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot
iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath
created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know
the truth.
4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be
received with thanksgiving:
Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers
and adulterers God will judge.
