Isaiah 7:8 For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is
Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that
it be not a people.
Isaiah 8:4 For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father,
and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be
taken away before the king of Assyria.
Isaiah 17:1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from
being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
2 The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall
lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
3 The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus,
and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of
Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.
4 And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be
made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.
5 And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth
the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the
valley of Rephaim.
6 Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree,
two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in
the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.
7 At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect
to the Holy One of Israel.
8 And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall
respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.
9 In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost
branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall
be desolation.
10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been
mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant
plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:
11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt
thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day
of grief and of desperate sorrow.
12 Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise
of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the
rushing of mighty waters!
13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall
rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff
of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
14 And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not.
This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob
us.
Amos 1:3 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and
for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have
threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:
4 But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the
palaces of Benhadad.
5 I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from
the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden:
and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD.
Zechariah 9:1 The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach,
and Damascus shall be the rest thereof: when the eyes of man, as of all
the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the LORD.
2 And Hamath also shall border thereby; Tyrus, and Zidon, though it be very
wise.
3 And Tyrus did build herself a strong hold, and heaped up silver as the
dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets.
4 Behold, the Lord will cast her out, and he will smite her power in the
sea; and she shall be devoured with fire.
5 Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also shall see it, and be very sorrowful,
and Ekron; for her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king shall perish
from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.
6 And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the
Philistines.
7 And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations
from between his teeth: but he that remaineth, even he, shall be for our
God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.
8 And I will encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him
that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no oppressor shall
pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.
9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold,
thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and
riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
10 And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem,
and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen:
and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even
to the ends of the earth.
11 As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy
prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.
12 Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare
that I will render double unto thee;
13 When I have bent Judah for me, filled the bow with Ephraim, and raised
up thy sons, O Zion, against thy sons, O Greece, and made thee as the sword
of a mighty man.
14 And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as
the lightning: and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with
whirlwinds of the south.
15 The LORD of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour, and subdue
with sling stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine;
and they shall be filled like bowls, and as the corners of the altar.
16 And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his
people: for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted up as an ensign
upon his land.
17 For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! corn shall
make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids.
