Leviticus 5:4 Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil,
or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath,
and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in
one of these.
Leviticus 6:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 If a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the LORD, and lie unto his
neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in fellowship, or
in a thing taken away by violence, or hath deceived his neighbour;
3 Or have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth
falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein:
4 Then it shall be, because he hath sinned, and is guilty, that he shall
restore that which he took violently away, or the thing which he hath deceitfully
gotten, or that which was delivered him to keep, or the lost thing which
he found,
5 Or all that about which he hath sworn falsely; he shall even restore it
in the principal, and shall add the fifth part more thereto, and give it
unto him to whom it appertaineth, in the day of his trespass offering.
6 And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD, a ram without
blemish out of the flock, with thy estimation, for a trespass offering,
unto the priest:
Numbers 30:1 And Moses spake unto the heads of the tribes concerning the
children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded.
2 If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with
a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth
out of his mouth.
3 If a woman also vow a vow unto the LORD, and bind herself by a bond, being
in her father's house in her youth;
4 And her father hear her vow, and her bond wherewith she hath bound her
soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her; then all her vows shall
stand, and every bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand.
5 But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of
her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand:
and the LORD shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her.
6 And if she had at all an husband, when she vowed, or uttered ought out
of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul;
7 And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her in the day that he
heard it: then her vows shall stand, and her bonds wherewith she bound her
soul shall stand.
8 But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it; then he
shall make her vow which she vowed, and that which she uttered with her
lips, wherewith she bound her soul, of none effect: and the LORD shall forgive
her.
9 But every vow of a widow, and of her that is divorced, wherewith they
have bound their souls, shall stand against her.
10 And if she vowed in her husband's house, or bound her soul by a bond
with an oath;
11 And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and disallowed her
not: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she bound her
soul shall stand.
12 But if her husband hath utterly made them void on the day he heard them;
then whatsoever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning
the bond of her soul, shall not stand: her husband hath made them void;
and the LORD shall forgive her.
13 Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may
establish it, or her husband may make it void.
14 But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day;
then he establisheth all her vows, or all her bonds, which are upon her:
he confirmeth them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he
heard them.
15 But if he shall any ways make them void after that he hath heard them;
then he shall bear her iniquity.
16 These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man
and his wife, between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth
in her father's house.
Judges 11:30 And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou shalt
without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands,
31 Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house
to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely
be the LORD'S, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.
32 So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them;
and the LORD delivered them into his hands.
33 And he smote them from Aroer, even till thou come to Minnith, even twenty
cities, and unto the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter.
Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.
34 And Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold, his daughter
came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only
child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.
35 And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said,
Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them
that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot
go back.
36 And she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto
the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth;
forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even
of the children of Ammon.
37 And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone
two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and bewail my
virginity, I and my fellows.
38 And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she went with
her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.
39 And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto
her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and
she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,
Judges 21:1 Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall
not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.
2 And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before
God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore;
3 And said, O LORD God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that
there should be to day one tribe lacking in Israel?
4 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built
there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.
5 And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of
Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had
made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh,
saying, He shall surely be put to death.
6 And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and
said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.
7 How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by
the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?
Hosea 4:1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD
hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no
truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery,
they break out, and blood toucheth blood.
3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall
languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea,
the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
Zechariah 5:1 Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold
a flying roll.
2 And he said unto me, What seest thou? And I answered, I see a flying roll;
the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten cubits.
3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face
of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this
side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on
that side according to it.
4 I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into
the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely
by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume
it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.
5 Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift
up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth.
Matthew 5:33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old
time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine
oaths:
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's
throne:
35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for
it is the city of the great King.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one
hair white or black.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is
more than these cometh of evil.
Matthew 23:16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall
swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold
of the temple, he is a debtor!
17 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that
sanctifieth the gold?
18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever
sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
19 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that
sanctifieth the gift?
20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all
things thereon.
21 And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that
dwelleth therein.
22 And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and
by him that sitteth thereon.
Acts 18:18 And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then
took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him
Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.
Acts 23:12 And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and
bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink
till they had killed Paul.
13 And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.
14 And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound
ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain
Paul.
15 Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he
bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something
more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to
kill him.
James 5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven,
neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea;
and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
